Jonathan Rivnay has been named the 2026 Blavatnik National Awards Laureate in Physical Sciences & Engineering, one of three Laureates chosen from 372 nominees nationwide. Each Laureate receives $250,000, the largest unrestricted prize for early-career scientists in the country.

Jonathan, who was named one of 18 Finalists in September, was recognized for “pioneering bioelectronic materials and implantable ‘living pharmacies’ that combine engineered cells with electronics, advancing personalized therapies for cancer, diabetes, and sleep disorders.”

A living pharmacy is a tool expected to promote tailored dosing of therapeutics. It consists of a small implant that holds engineered cells, which, when stimulated, produce and release medicines inside the body.
